I am on a migration;
I walk to Chester station
feeling anticipation,
worry, in alternation,
with a bit of elation,
voici my exclamation
“Going to the Scotch nation!”
to see many a relation
in a short duration:
this is my peregrination*
or, for reiteration,
details of my vacation:
Mum’s and my destination
is of high elevation...
*A peregrination is a journey, especially one on foot and by a pilgrim.
Oct 31 Sat “This Rat’s Rhyme”
Our arrival in Chester was at half-four:
at 7 we began the knocking-at-doors.
Sister 2 was dressed as an evil gnat:
foam and a ski-helmet made her hat.
Sister 1’s outfit was that of a cat.
My costume was that of a rat.
My tail was made of plaited belts;
a fur-like jumper was my pelt.
I made my ears from card and paper.
Our rewards for our hard labour
included lollipops and Haribos.
It’s a pity I forgot my joke:
“Would you like a chocolate, dear”
“No thank-you, I have one ’ere!”
(One of my ears had been “bitten” off;
I’ll give you the plague if you scoff!)
Have a Happy Hallowe’en and Overjoyed October
even though it’s nearly over.
