In Art, we got homework: “Find and bring in a 2B, 3B, or 4B pencil”. We also learnt what the terms “2B”, “3B”, and “4B” meant, so we could do the homework.

Football is never my favourite subject at the best of times. Unfortunately, today was not the best of times. Multiply my dislike of sport by all the “angels” in Heaven (if there are such things) pulling the plug on all their swimming-pools which just so happen to be over the School’s playing fields. Then multiply the answer by the fact that only half of us had waterproofs (not including me), and the fact that no-one had a spare towel (neither did I). Yep, my half were drenched, me in particular. I didn’t have any spare underpants so I spent the rest of the afternoon in soggy undies. Great.

Friday lunchtime was half spent wrapping book jackets in plastic in the Library; half spent tucking into a slice of pizza in the Dining Hall, and half spent tucking into rice pudding... another pudding that was in custard.
