The Sailor house-hold made a day-trip today to Crosby Beach. It is probably most famous for the series of sculptures by artist Antony Gormley: his “Another Place” installation.

It is not to be confused with the nearby fishmongers’, Another Plaice.
Or indeed, the shoe-shop, Another Lace.

Apart from shooting some photographs involving the iron men - the statues take the form of life-size cast-iron replicas of Gormley’s own body - I paid little attention to the sea-weed- and barnacle-encrusted models. Being metallic, I supposed they were more riveted than riveting (whereas the Titanic was both). I meanwhile was more engrossed by the gulls (lesser black-backed ones, at that). I was excited by the sand and the sea (like at Machrihanish Beach, but with better weather). I was entranced by the prospect of seeing skylarks in the dunes. I think I see one now... just a minute... just a linnet.

A linnet! Who-ever’s choosing the birdlife for today must be having a lark. Or rather, not.
