Dec 20 Thu “EUSTON”
I’d like to draw to your attention the first letter of each paragraph in this article. (E, U, S, T, O, N.) Most articles in my Diary in 2007 and 2008 with titles in all-capitals have their initial letters of the paragraphs spelling out their title.
Early this morning (about 7:30) Mum & I caught a train (but not with a net) to Euston, and 3 hours later we arrived in a city of 7.5 million inhabitants (excluding the copious pigeon-birds).
Under the smog and clouds lay the British Museum. The first exhibit we went to was the elevator, second was Ancient Egypt. By Horus (that’s an Egyptian god), there are a lot of mummies and coffins! Even a mummified baboon! Third up was Ancient Mesopotamia (Iraq in today’s geography). This exhibit showed they were quite potty for pots. And then the Ancient Greeks, Romans and Cypriots all liked doing sculptures of famous people’s heads. The seventh exhibit was about money through the ages, including a credit-card machine. The eighth exhibit was the shop.
Stopping over at a World Food Café for lunch, we ate the lunch. I had Egyptian food and Mum had Thai.
Then Mum & I went to the famous market at Covent Garden to admire the lights and £165 cheeses. Not forgetting the silk blankets of course.
Othello was being put on at the Donmar Warehouse so, guess what happened next today. Yes, I had honey-and-ginger ice-cream at the interval. It was very good, both the play itself and the ice-cream.
Next was tea in an an Italian restaurant. I had tortalene (ravioli with bigger parcels) and mushrooms in tomato sauce. Bon appetit. That’s not Italian. Then we went home.
